Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, a native of Tainan, holds a Doctor of Science degree in Public Health from Harvard University. She is a distinguished scholar and higher education leader whose career has been dedicated to advancing public health, environmental sustainability, higher education, and social well-being.

Chairperson Su has built a comprehensive career in higher education spanning international affairs, academic leadership, university administration, institutional governance, and strategic development. She served in senior leadership positions at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), including Vice President and President, becoming the first female president in the university’s history.

Throughout her career, she has championed international engagement, institutional innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainability, and social responsibility. Her leadership reflects a consistent belief that universities must not only pursue academic excellence, but also respond meaningfully to the challenges facing society and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Chairperson Su’s academic and leadership contributions have earned significant recognition in Taiwan and internationally. Her honors include the Leadership Award in Public Health Practice from Harvard University, recognition by Asian Scientist 100 and Nature’s Science Stars of East Asia, the Technology Management Award from the Chinese Society for the Management of Technology, and the Outstanding Professional Award from the Global Corporate Sustainability Awards.

Chairperson Su deeply values Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology’s longstanding tradition of conscientious education, practical learning, and dedication to students. Since its founding, STUST has remained firmly committed to technical and vocational education, cultivating generations of graduates distinguished not only by professional competence, but also by practical wisdom, problem-solving ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.

She believes that the distinctive value of technical and vocational education lies in its ability to connect knowledge with action, learning with practice, and professional competence with responsibility. A university prepares students not simply for their first profession, but for a lifetime of learning, adaptation, contribution, and service to society.

This mission has become even more important in an era transformed by artificial intelligence, demographic change, global competition, and rapidly evolving expectations for higher education. Universities must prepare students not merely to respond to change, but to understand it, engage with it, and help shape the future.

As STUST enters a new stage of development, Chairperson Su believes that its strong institutional foundation, pragmatic educational spirit, close connections with industry and society, and enduring commitment to students provide a powerful foundation for the future.

Building upon these strengths, she looks forward to working with the Board, university leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners to broaden opportunities for the next generation, deepen the university’s contribution to southern Taiwan, and further strengthen STUST’s distinctive role in Taiwan’s higher education landscape.
